PHARM Summer Research Programs at U-M Pharmacology 2026

Description and target population:

The Pharmacology Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship program is an immersive, 10 week experience designed for undergraduate students seeking to explore and carry out basic and translational research in pharmacologyApplications are especially encouraged from students who wish to pursue a Ph.D. in Pharmacology or other basic biomedical discipline.


Funding:

Fellows are funded through two different mechanisms:

  • The ASPET Institutional Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship 
  • The Charles Ross Summer Fellowship, which was established in honor of Dr. Charles Ross, one of the first scientists of color to earn a Ph.D. in Pharmacology at the University of Michigan.

Support consists of a $6000 stipend and a $1000 travel/housing allowance.

The criteria, support and benefits are the same for both funding mechanisms. 


Dates and activities:

2026 Summer Internship Dates:  May 26, 2026 - July  31, 2026

As a fellow, you will:

  • Join a world class research laboratory in the department of pharmacology and immerse yourself in a specific research project under the direct supervision of faculty and members of the host laboratory. An important feature of our program is that Laboratory assignments are made by common agreement between the fellow and the host laboratory.
  • Attend and participate in a seminar series specifically designed for the summer fellows.
  • Interact with participants of other summer programs at the University of Michigan.
  • Be able to participate in a regional Pharmacology colloquium.
  • Attend an open house hosted by the Rackham School of graduate Studies at the University of Michigan where you can learn about all the graduate programs offered by our institution.
  • Participate in the Pharmacology in Color event, where you will be able to meet and interact with alumni of our program and learn about career opportunities.
  • Showcase you research in an oral presentation to the department of Pharmacology during the 2-day Summer Fellows Symposium.


Eligibility and Deadline:

The fellowships are designed for undergraduate students seeking additional research experience outside of their home institutions. Current U-M students are also eligible to apply.

Eligible Applicants Must:

  • Be full-time college students
  • Have completed at least two semesters at an accredited higher education institution
  • Have a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Be willing to devote 10 consecutive weeks to full-time laboratory research
